Week 4

For my final week, I planned a backpacking trip near Mt. Hood. I organized a trip itinerary, researched the area, and created a collaborative packing list. We drove out to the trail and headed up to Lower Twin Lake, where we would be camping. I chose this trail because its super beginner-friendly, especially for backpacking which can be significantly harder than hiking because of all of the added weight. It was a quick two-mile hike up to the lake. Once we got to the lake it was beautiful and clear, so we set up our camp right away and ate lunch. Soon after there were some pretty heavy winds that started blowing over the lake, making our camp much colder than forecast. It then started raining and the weather wasn't showing signs of calming down. With that, we decided to pack up our camp and drive somewhere warmer and more comfortable. We ended up going to the beach and doing a beautiful hike in the morning, Neakhani Mountain, which gave a great few of the ocean. This...

This week I planned a trip to a beautiful campsite, little crater lake. We were lucky to have amazing weather over our trip, allowing us to appreciate nature even more. On our way to our campsite, we stopped at a much bigger lake to go swimming, clear lake. As we were finding our way to clear lake google maps took us on logging roads and need at a trailhead to walk down to the lake. We thought it was pretty awesome and remote, but as we drove down 26 later we realized there was a completely paved road and parking lot that lead to the lake. We laughed about it but appreciated the adventure we had had. This is clear lake.     After finishing our swim we headed back to the car and drove to our campsite. There we set up all of our stuff and walked to the little crater lake. The lake was formed by a crater and is spring-fed causing it to be very cold, so there was, unfortunately, no swimming allowed. We were able to relax, enjoy the beauty and eat lots of r...

Week 2

This week I planned a camping trip for me and some of my friends. When we were driving over to the campsite we all had the directions on our phones, however, as kids raised on technology we forgot that there would be no cell service near the campsite. Once we were about 4 miles away our directions stopped and we had to start reading signs. We ended up driving up and down the windy road a few times until we finally spotted the hidden campsite. We ended up at a beautiful spot that was full of lush forest and had a great time, but always remember to print out a map or the directions! After planning my first trip I learned a lot about communicating effectively and efficiently to make sure we were all on the same page. I think it's really helpful to make sure you are checking the weather forecast and packing accordingly. I would also recommend splitting up different supplies among the people coming on the trip to make it simpler. For anybody interested in going on camping trips of their...

Week 1

For this project, I am working independently to plan outdoor trips in order to gain independence in the wilderness and learn how to be a responsible outdoor recreator. I chose this project because over the last year going on outdoor trips was the only normal thing I could continue doing. My appreciation and love for the outdoors quickly grew and I wanted to reflect that in my senior project. This project is giving me an opportunity to further one of my hobbies and learn how I can actually plan trips on my own. I was inspired to do this project because after a stressful end to the first semester I wanted to do a project focused on relaxing and doing something I knew I would enjoy. Although I am working independently, I made a group chat of classmates that seemed interested in attending the trips I planned so that they could be social and a fun end to the year. The trips are open to anybody and if someone is interested in being contacted when I plan each trip please reach out! My three g...
